Adonis Volanakis was born in Athens, 1976. Adonis studied at University of Arts London, Wimbledon College of Art/ BA (Hons), Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design/ MA and Aalto University in Helsinki. His practice is the interchanging amalgam of blind dates and aesthetics, poetry and politics, visual and performing arts, public and indoor spaces. Adonis creates installations and performances, instigates collaborative platforms and exhibitions, as well as he designs and/or directs dance, theatre and opera. Adonis has created performances / installations in the USA at Dixon’s Place and Kimmel Galleries; in the UK at the Royal Opera house- Covent Garden, National Theatre; in Switzerland at the Archeological Museum of Basel; in Georgia at the History Museum of Tbilisi; in Greece in DOCUMENTA 14, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, European Cultural Centre of Delphi, Athens Festival,  Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete, National Theatre, Greek National Opera;  and in Canada, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and Finland. Since 2004 Adonis has taught in Tisch School of Arts / New York University, École Νationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs/ ÉnsAD –Paris, and in Greece: Athens Conservatoire, University of Patras and University of Peloponnese.
